Becoming Clover

In October of this last year, three friends with similar interests, including but not limited to being fans of the show Fixer Upper, decided on a whim to take a girls’ trip to visit Magnolia Market in Waco, TX. Several women were interested in this adventure, but only three of us were able to swing it - Hilary, a mom of five boys and wife to our church pastor Michael; Sarah, a mom of two kids and wife to Justin, a construction manager; and me, Ryann, a mom of three kids and wife to Curtis, a doctor/surgeon. We were going to be gone for three days to shop and relax. We pulled out of Greeley at 3:00am to catch our flight, all a little sleepy but with adrenaline pumping for what lay ahead.

We arrived in Waco later that day, and Hilary started our tour immediately. Hilary is a graduate of Baylor University, so she took us to all of her old haunts. Thank goodness she visited a favorite coffee shop first, considering we had all been awake for fourteen hours, surviving on four hours of sleep. Bring on the caffeine – IV drip preferable! We were able to push on after that. We drove by Magnolia Market, but made an executive decision not to enter in the delirious state we were in. If luck was on our side, and we ran into Chip or Joanna Gaines, we did not want them seeing us in current conditions. Always good to play it safe – first impressions and all.As we toured Waco, we couldn’t help but notice how similar Waco is to Greeley. Both have similar demographics, both are University towns, and both have a downtown area that the communities are trying to revitalize. Waco’s downtown was once vibrant and beautiful, until a tornado ripped through it. They are still struggling to recover.

The next day we visited Magnolia Market and Harp Design Co. For those not familiar with the show, Clint Harp is the carpenter and produces amazing custom tables for all of the houses the Gaines’ work on. It was an eye opening experience. Throughout the day, the three of us spoke of our dreams of being Interior Decorators, our love for Greeley, and how amazing it was that all of these incredibly talented people were coming together in Waco to help others find a new appreciation for their homes through creativity and beauty. It didn’t take long before we were all discussing the possibilities of doing something similar in the place we love, Greeley.

Throughout the rest of our trip, the idea of starting an Interior Decorating company kept surfacing. It was exciting and terrifying. For the past twelve years, we had all been busy, stay-at-home moms - the keepers of all that was good and holy. We kept the home fires burning - the clothes clean, food on the table, the bills paid and got everyone where they needed to be. What would happen to all of that if we came home from this trip and announced we are starting a business!?! Our husbands would die!

We arrived home late the next evening, and we didn’t speak much about the business idea on the ride home. However, after being home for about ten hours, the texts started with fervor. It went something like this, “Are we doing this? I can’t stop thinking about it!” We decided to have a meeting to go over the pros and cons. It didn’t take long to figure out that we really wanted to make this dream a reality. We spoke to our families, and were pleasantly surprised at how supportive they were of our new venture.

Over the past several months, we have worked tirelessly to create our business, Clover Home. Knowing full well how unattainable hiring a designer can seem, we have gone out of our way to find the best wholesalers to partner with to find that perfect piece at a great price for our clients. We have several different design options in order to work with individuals within the budget they feel comfortable. We pride ourselves on taking the time to get to know our clients, so we can bring something personal and meaningful into their space. We truly hope to be invited into your homes or work place, so we can help you love where you live.
